That is because weakness in reading preoccupies the mind from understanding the text, while proficiency in reading frees the mind to concentrate and comprehend. The student who is prepared and qualified to study a course in Arabic is the one who has previously studied how to read Arabic. The one who can read the Qur’an fluently from any given chapter. It does not necessitate that he or she can recite the Qur’an, but the more fluent someone can read Arabic, the more prepared they are to excel in a course.
